Highlighting our fantastic members’ successes so far in 2022
We’re half way through ‘the year that was normal,’ although
it has so far been anything but! We believe that when things get tough, life
gets you down and you feel a bit overwhelmed, it helps to look back at what
you’ve achieved, what you have in your life that makes you smile and what you
can keep doing to make you feel good.
That’s why we’re looking back at the year so far and
celebrating some of the achievements we’ve seen at the Dojo! We hope you enjoy
reading about it as much as we enjoyed doing it all.
January
Karate K-1 Series, Spain
Coach Anthony Halsall flew out to Pamplona in Spain to
compete in the prestigious karate K1-Series on the world stage. His first time
out at a huge WKF international event, Anthony fought at sub 60kg. He had an
incredible experience, and it was great to see our coaching team setting the
highest of standards once again.
JKS England Kata Squad, Harrogate
The JKS National Kata Squad this year included students
Stella Vassiliou Sensei, Oliver, and Luke. Ben Richardson Sensei was proud to
act as JKS England Assistant Team coach.
February
Safe on the Streets - Women’s free self-defence training
The course was offered to members and the community alike
and was a raging success. We have run the course since 2006, and there will be
new dates announced later in the year.
March
JKS Spring Course, Nottingham
It was great to see a large group of Can Do students
enjoying the JKS Spring course in Nottingham. There was fantastic teaching from
Alan Campbell Sensei, Hans Rana Sensei, and our own Ben Richardson Sensei. Terrific
team spirit and a great display of good karate!
April
Interclub competition, Banbury
Coach Jordan Squires took JKD Students Richard, Stefan, and Alex
to compete in the Banbury martial arts interclub in K1, Mauy Thai and MMA. They
did a great job with some really tough bouts, and they showed a great level of
skill, and listened well to all their coaching.
British Karate Federation, Four Nation Championships,
Leicester
Stella Vassiliou Sensei won silver in the women’s veteran
Kata, and Coach Anthony Halsall won bronze in the male senior kumite sub 60kg
British Stick Fighting Championships, Northampton
Dan achieved second place in his division, when competing at
the GSBA championships among 50 fighters.

Campbell Sensei 7th Dan, Head of JKS England.
Easter Dodgeball Games
We have had some fantastic feedback from both children and adults
who all had a lot of fun. We will be doing it again at our summer camp so keep
an eye out for details!
May
Yanagi Kai open in Manchester
Amazing to see brothers Richard and James together winning
bronze in men’s individual Kata. Luke and the brothers also took bronze in Team
Kata, and Anthony Halsall Sensei and Richard and James won silver in the men’s Team
Kumite. Anthony also won bronze in the men’s open weight Kumite event. How
fantastic!
All year
We have seen so many celebrations in both the adults and
children’s classes at the gradings we have been privileged to host and attend
through the year so far.
What we’re looking forward to next
The fun never stops at Can Do Martial Arts, and we’re
looking forward to more competitions coming up in June:
·
Grappling Industries, London
·
BJJ British Open, Kenilworth
·
Cumbrian Karate Open
·
Lots of All Star’s events, and a new course of
TFW and of course even more gradings.
