CDMA Karate success once more!
CDMA karate squad were in action again this past Sunday at the JKS Novice competition in York.
This competition limits the entry to kyu grades and black belts of less than one year. Wendy, JF and Colin all competed in both kata and kumite. Kata was up first. JF performed an admirable Heian Nidan but the judges decision went to his opponent. Wendy and Colin were competing in the same catagory. Colin went first against a young shodan black belt who was the eventual silver medalist and lost in the repecharge to a bronze medalist. Wendy's first match was against the eventual winner and also lost in the repecharge to a bronze medalist.
All three reset themselves and prepared for kumite.
Wendy was fighting first and won her first round match to advance to the semi-final. Here she came up against a heavy hitting shodan but fought valiantly only losing by a couple of points but still claimed a worthy bronze medal. JF’s category was a mixed bag of talent. JF fought well in his first fight scoring a point but eventually losing to a finalist. This put him into the repecharge for a bronze where he won a bruising clash to take the medal. After moving to the semi- final Colin won the match with some good movement and techniques. The final was against a fine opponent who fought with an unorthodox style which Colin was unable to break down and eventually lost taking the silver medal. Excellent performances from all three gaining CDMA even more medals in the third consecutive competition they have attended showing that the training and perseverance of the squad is paying dividends.
