World Championship Medals!
Last weekend Abingdon Karate students of Can Do Martial Arts, represented JKS England at the World Karate Championships, at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
Over 30 countries and near 1000 competitors took part in this international event, competing in both kata (patterns) and kumite (fighting).
With a fantastic weekend of high level competitors going head to head, Sensei Ben Richardson and his students brought home 3 medals for England!
Both Sam Coxon and Ben fought side by side in the team kumite, winning Bronze for England, narrowly missing out on a place in the final against Japan by just half a point!
In the individual event Ben and Sam both fought the dominant Japanese in the 1/4 final, a dream realised for Sensei Richardson. "To fight the Japanese in a world championship was a dream come true".
Student Ece Besen went one better, winning bronze in the Girls 14-15yrs kumite category, truly a jaw dropping performance and amazing achievement after just a few years at Can Do.
