Recent Successes at Can Do...
It has been a busy few months at Can Do Martial Arts recently, and yet again the Academy has shown it's strength and quality in the the successes it has achieved. Being the only dedicated full time dojo in south oxfordshire, has brought with it the opportunity to transform students to new heights as the availability to practice in a custom based facility is unique to the area.
Earlier this year two of our senior sensei (Peter Hill and Stella Vassiliou) were awarded their 3rd Dan and 4th Dan respectively by Kagawa Shihan 9th Dan, and head of the Japan Karate Shoto-Federation, one of the world's most respected Shotokan organisations. These two successes that have required immense commitment and determination, coupled with hours and hours of practice and training were augmented this past month, by head instructor Ben Richardson Sensei passing his 5th Dan while attending the 5th International JKS Cup in Dublin, Ireland. Our Karate coaching team is continuing to lead by example and push the boundaries of skill in the academy.
At the 5th JKS International Cup last month in August one of our Cadette competitors, Kenny Lambourne represented JKS England in the individual kumite event. Blitzing through several rounds of high calibre opponents from around the world, Kenny faced a tough Portuguese fighter in the final. Showing excellent spirit, speed, and strategy Kenny over came his adversary to be crowned champion of the JKS World. We are very proud of him!
In other arts we saw Dan Gerber a long standing member of our JKD/ Kali student group (CDMA is Oxford's only JKD Academy), win triple Gold at the WEKAF European Stick fighting championships, in single, double and long stick fighting categories. A huge, huge success for Dan and an immense reward for the dedication he has show to his training, and his willingness to put himself outside his comfort zone, and a massive thumbs up to the coaches and he quality of coaching found at the Abingdon Dojo.
More recently still we saw fighter Tom Dickson win at MMA Battle Arena in Kettering, as he faced a tough European opponent. Tom fought a great fight showing a mixture of his excellent BJJ skills and pin point striking to clinch the win by rear naked choke. A brilliant performance, supported by coaching from our Head BJJ Black Belt Chris Fensom.
Speaking of head BJJ Coach, Chris just became British Masters Champion today! Wow! We are so proud.
