JKS National Championships 2018
Sunday 18th November saw a fantastic day for Can Do Martial Arts at the JKS National Championships.
CDMA took a small team of 12 competitors and returns with 5 silver medals and two bronze medals across both Kata and Kumite disciplines.
The day started extremely well with the Senior Kata team comprising of Stella Sensei, Catherine Hartley and James Knipe, performing an excellent Bassai Dai in the team final, after beating teams from both Manchester and London, winning Silver.
Things got even better as Stella Sensei went on to beat everyone in the female Senior Kata category, narrowly loosing in the final to JKS England Team member. A great result and seeing Stella winning another Silver medal in this discipline.
Oliver Holyoak succeeded in winning the bronze medal int he boys Kata, while JF Carneaux put in an excellent performance in the Kyu grade kata again taking the Silver medal.
After lunch and a long break in the action, we were finally in the kumite events. In the teams we were a man down for the cadets 14-15 years. Oliver Holyoak and Kenney Lambourne performed amazingly well, at an ippon disadvantage (8 points) each match, facing teams from London, Walsall, Leeds and JKS Scotland's Elite Squad. Quite amazingly the boys fought their way brilliantly to the team final where they faced JKS Scotlands Elite fighters, only losing by 1 point in the final match! A huge Silver medal for both boys.
In the boys individual Kumite event Kenney Lambourne again was on fire fighting his way to the finals losing narrowly to LKA's Joe Hird.
While in the Senior male team kumite, CDMA fought well in very slippery conditions taking the bronze medal and closing out an exhilarating day!
Well done to all our competitors who performed fantastically.
