BJJ Legend teaching at Can Do Martial Arts!
Maurício "Maurição" Motta Gomes is a master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, one of the six people (most commonly known as the "Famous Five") to have been promoted to Black Belt by the famous Rolls Gracie prior to Gracie's untimely death.
The nickname "Maurição" meant Big Maurício. He has been training and teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 50 years and at present holds the rank of 7th degree black and red belt. He is the father of Roger Gracie, who promoted our Professor Kev Capel to Black Belt, and is considered by many to be the greatest BJJ competitor of all time.
Understanding where our lineage lies, it is extremely exciting to announce that Master Gomes will be teaching a 2 hour seminar at Can Do Martial Arts Dojo, in Abingdon on Saturday 1st of July, from 12noon - 2pm. Head coach Ben Richardson has had the pleasure of training under Master Gomes as a white belt many years ago, and still recalls how inspiring his teaching style is.
"To have the Father of BJJ in the UK come to our Dojo is immense! I am very proud to be able to host such an event, and know that our students will come away from the course feeling uplifted and totally enthused with regard to their own training and progression in BJJ. I still recall being blown away by his depth of knowledge and his capacity to make you feel like you were the skillful and clever one!".
