How to run a Marathon part 2
Hello everyone,
So week two of my marathon training diary, and I'm sure you're all hanging on the edge of your seat to find out how it went!
But first some FAQs:
What music do you like to listen to whilst running?: Chemical Brothers, I just open spotify and select their playlist. It's great music to switch off your mind and run to.
How do deal with needing the loo?: Lol when I heard this one, but to be honest it's a valid question. Firstly preparation, I make sure I eat around two hours before the run starts
so that nothing is sitting on the stomach when I set off. Secondly I don't take a drink with me whilst running as no one really likes having to stop mid-way for a tinkle, especially
if there's nowhere really to go!
What running shoes do you wear?: Kalenji Kiprun Trail XT6, they're nothing special, just trail running shoes from Decathlon (other sport stores are available). Being trail running shoes
though they are good for if you need to run off road, on muddy or loose surfaces.
So last week I had a good Sunday run but I did not manage to complete any of the other runs in the week. Sadly this week has not been much better I'm afraid.
This week my training consisted of:
Tuesday 10 minutes easy run, 20 minutes steady run, 10 minutes easy run... I did not manage
Thursday 40 minutes steady run... I did not manage
Saturday 10 minutes easy run, 5 x(2 minutes interval run, 2 minutes easy run), 10 minutes steady run... I did not manage
Sunday 1 hour 10 minutes long run... I did manage!!!
I had every intention of going out in the week but it just did not happen, I was hoping that writing this blog would give me an extra layer of accountability
as it's very embarrassing to sit here and tell you I'm not achieving all that I've set out to do. That being said I am determined to get running during the week so I will lay everything on the line
and PROMISE that I will have completed at least one of the mid-week runs by the time of my next blog.
To achieve this I will most likely cut out a metabolic TFW session, to reach your goals sometimes you need to prioritise and compromise other parts of your life to achieve balance and that's what I'm going to do.
As for the run I did do it was another great run, I added ten minutes onto the run time and took two seconds off my average minute/mile pace bringing it to 8:44. Still some work to be done to get where I need to be
but that is even more reason to complete the runs during the week. I saw fellow TFW member Peter Sands out running as well which always adds a little boost, thank you Pete.
Here's a link to my run details on the running app Strava, be sure to follow me if you're a fellow Strava user as I could do with all the support I can get.
