Free martial arts taster classes at the Abingdon Dojo
Have you thought about trying something new in your fitness
regime? Or perhaps you already have some experience in martial arts, but it’s
been a while since you practiced…
We’re offering free taster classes for all our martial arts,
here at the Abingdon Dojo.
Your free taster class will give you a fantastic opportunity
to experience the warm and welcoming dojo community, get a hands on feel for
what you will gain under the expert tuition of our coaches and an insight to
the journey ahead.
No need to worry about what to wear, just come in something
you’re comfortable in, we will provide any other equipment or uniform needed.
Your coach will even give you a call on the day to remind you about your
appointment so there’s no chance of FOMO either.
KickStart for Kids
A very special introduction to the martial arts, for kids
from 3-6 years of age. This one is all about building growing confidence, focus
and discipline, whilst building physical strength and agility.
It’s a lot of fun for our youngest members, who find that
the classes are only the beginning! There’s friendship and respect to be found.
And there’s always social events throughout the year…
Take a look at the KickStart video to find
out what happens in classes.
Karate
Our karate classes are for adults and children alike, we
even have families working together. Here you will learn self-defence techniques
and get the opportunity to use your body in new ways to block and strike pads
or opponents.

more.
Jeet Kune Do (JKD)
JKD is a mix of martial arts, where the individual can pick
and choose techniques that suits them personally. You may use grappling like in
Judo, striking with or without weaponry, or clinching as in wrestling. It was created
by Bruce
Lee, who was one of the first people to popularise cross training in
martial arts.
Once again children and adults all take part in this class.
See Ben Richardson Sensei talking about the art in our JKD video.
Brazilian Ju Jitsu (BJJ)
The roots of BJJ are in Judo and Ju Jitsu. Two grappling
styles of martial art that teaches how a smaller, weaker person may overcome an
opponent by using mechanical leverage over strength and strategy. Many students
are attracted by the wrestling element and find that anticipating the next few
moves of your opponent is incredibly fulfilling.
You can see some of our students practising in the BJJ video.
Kali
Kali has a close association with Jeet Kune Do, in that it
uses grappling, weaponry and striking with the hands and feet.
This class will vastly improve your coordination! “If you
think of Sudoku as brain training, Kali is like brain training with a physical
aspect. Your mind feels like it’s had a workout, not just your body!” Ben
Richardson Sensei
