About Matt Price Sensei and why he is a regular visitor to CDMA, Part 4.
In this last post we look at how the hard work, perseverance, determination and hours upon hours of practice paid off for Sensei Price.
Having been a competitor for a number of years, I know both the highs and lows of competition. While CDMA was a member of the KUGB I represented the England Squad and took part in both Grand Slam events and the National championships. They were tough events with large category sizes.
Matt SenseI was KUGB National Champion no less than 9 times! That is a huge feat and he managed to do this not only in Kumite but in the Kata events too! Making him Grand Champion, something only a handful of people have achieved.
In the 4-nations Grand Slam Championships for the KUGB, Matt Sensei won the individual Kumite title 16 times for England!
Having represented the KUGB Team internationally Matt was able to both win Gold for the Senior Men’s Team as well as his most prestigious feat, winning the Individual European Kumite title. He was also voted European Competitor of the year, twice!
Having left the KUGB to join the JKS a couple of years prior to our own, Matt Sensei flourished in the rich learning environment and with regular opportunities to train under the Japanese once more. In 2015 Matt Sensei traveled to Tokyo and graded 6th Dan in Japan under Shihan Kagawa 8th Dan.
More recently Matt was inducted to the Martial Arts Illustrated (MAI) Hall of Fame and in 2017 has been awarded the MAI Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Karate.
Matt Sensei is now the Head Coach of the JKS England Kumite and Kata Squads and Teams, who have become one of the most successful associations and countries in both the EKF All-styles competition circuit as well as the global JKS tournament scene. It is a real privilege for us to be able to host Matt Sensei and involve our students in his teachings, knowledge and experience.
Matt Sensei is taking an open course on Friday 18th August 6.30pm -8.30pm at the Abingdon Dojo. To book your space contact office@candomartialarts.co.uk
