Choosing the right martial arts club for you
Starting martial arts training is a commitment.
You’re giving up your time, energy and cash to change your lifestyle and
putting your body through its paces. So, it’s important to find a martial arts
club that suits you.
A quick Google search will reveal quite a few
clubs in Oxfordshire, so we want to give you some tips on how to make a choice
that lasts.
How close is it?
Let’s be honest, the training will be tiring
and take you out of your comfort zone. If you have to contemplate travelling a
good distance, making your meals late and pushing back your R & R time, it
might put you off even turning up some nights (or early mornings!)
As you train, and begin to see the results, you
might find you’re willing to travel further – some clubs, including our Dojo
offer the opportunity to train at other clubs and take part in group events.
Club safety
Do
check out the insurance and governing bodies that the
club belongs to, just to be on the safe side. The governing body membership
requires each club to meet certain standards of expertise, skill and safety so
that will give you an excellent foundation to base your decision on.
Online reviews
You can always have a look at Google or
Facebook reviews to help you make your choice. Scrolling through the social
media pages will also give you an idea of how the club supports their members,
charities, the community and so on.
Formal or informal?
Do you want to call your instructor by their
name, or by Sensei? The different martial arts call for different levels of
formality, but the overall feel of the class and how comfortable you are in it
depends on the staff themselves.
Choose Can Do Martial Arts!
Ours is the only professional, dedicated

Founded by Ben and Virginia Richardson, the
Dojo has a genuine family feel to it, where all are welcome in an informal manner,
whilst still teaching the fundamental basis of the arts – respect.
Our classes are fun, will work you hard and are
varied. We offer free taster sessions in all the arts and you can always move
from one to another, trying different techniques to find out what suits your
