CDMA Karate DVD’s

We are pleased to announce that we have our own Karate DVD series, showcasing much of the junior talent in our academy, including 2 National Champions.
The DVD series has been split in to different belt ranges and will be a great learning aid for students training outside of lesson time. Our DVD’s will also be particularly useful for grading preparation.

Each DVD is organised in to sections on Kihon (Basics), Kata (Patterns) and Kumite (Sparring) relevant to that grade.

The Novice (White Belt) DVD is a stand alone resource and is priced at £12.99

Orange & Red Belt is priced at £14.99

Yellow & Green is priced at £14.99

Purple & Purple-White is priced at £14.99

Brown Belt Series (3rd-1st Kyu) is priced at £14.99

Please order off the website for your copy, we can arrange delivery to your local class for free or we can post out to you which will be £2.50 for P&P.

Saturday 7th August - Karate classes cancelled

Please note that the Karate classes held this Saturday - 7th August only have been cancelled as per the email:

9:30am - Henley Leisure Centre CANCELLED

11:15am - Castle Leisure Centre, Wallingford CANCELLED

Saturday classes will be back to normal the following week. Apologies for any inconvenience.

JKD, CMA & Women’s Kickboxing Grading

JKD, CMA & Women’s Kickboxing Grading

The next grading is scheduled for Saturday 11th September 2010 at 10.30am. 10.30-11.30am - Children’s Combined Martial Arts grading.

11.30am - 1.30pm - Women’s Kick Boxing and Adults JKD/MFA.

Students will need to wear their appropriate uniform and can bring their own equipment if they have it.

Gum shields are recommended. Please bring a drink too.

The cost of the grading is £20 for children and £30 for adults. Belts/T-shirts and certification is covered within this fee.

Competition Squad Training Dates

Please see below squad training dates - on these dates only CDMA Competition squad members should attend the class, all other stdents should attend an alternative class instead.These dates refer to either the Monday 8-9pm class, the Wednesday 7 - 8:30pm class or the Sunday 4-5pm class in Abingdon for the respective dates below only. No other classes are effected.

Ben’s 24 Peak Challenge - the result!

Dear All,

I thought you might like a report on the 24 Peak Challenge that Sensei Ben and Adam Asher completed on the 22nd July. Some people have been asking for the route that they took so please see this below:They both started just after 11am and reached the first Peak – Red Pike after just 1 hour and 18 minutes.

Peak 3 – High Crag
By 4pm they had reached the 5th Peak – Great Gable. The hike started off with rain which eased off and was replaced with a continuous mist.
Peak 6 – Lingmell Crag
Peak 7 – Scafell!
Peak 8 – Great End
Peak 9 – Est Pike
Peak 10 – Bowfell Pike
Peak 12 – Dove Crag – reached at 2:30am, very dark, misty and raining by now!
Peak 13 – Heart Crag reached at around 3:11am. Both of them are exhausted.
Peak 14 – Fairfield – at 4:30am, light is starting to come up again, they can finally see!
Peak 16 – Dollywag reached at 6:39am.
Peak 17 – Netyhermost Pike – 7am
Peak 18 - Helvelyn
Peak 19 Lowermann Pike – reached at 7:44am
Peak 20 – Whiteside Pike – reached at about 8am, horrible weather now.
Peak 21 – Raise Pike reached at 8:26am.
Peak 23 – Watsons Dodd
Peak 24 – Great Dodd completed at 9:30am.

Final time for completing the challenge was 21 hours and 53 minutes!!

I know both Adam and Ben found climbing 24 peaks in 24 hours a tough challenge but one that was extremely rewarding. We were really amazed and touched at how generous people have ben with their donations and want to thank you very much for all of your help. It has truly been amazing. So far we have been able to raise just under £3000 which is fantastic and a massive help towards reaching our target.

Karate Grading - Sunday 18th July

Our next Karate Grading will be on Sunday 18th July. There will be a 1 hour training session with Sensei Bob Poynton (7th Dan) at 11:45am at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre in Abingdon in the sports hall for everyone, please note that attendance is not compulsory but advisable and a great opportunity. People that are not grading this time are very welcome to attend this training session also, it will cost £5 per person if you are not grading.

The grading will then take place at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre, in the squash courts:

We will be splitting the grading in to smaller groups as usual. The groups are according to your current grade/belt and will be as follows:

1:00pm – 2:45pm      White and Orange belts only

2:45pm – 4:15pm      Red, Yellow & Green belts only

4:15pm – 5:30pm      Purple, Purple & White, Brown, Brown & White belts only

The above times are just to give you a rough idea and may be subject to slight change. All students should arrive no later than 10 minutes before their scheduled grading. Late arrival will mean you will not be able to grade.

It is not compulsory for parents to wait or watch their children grade. If you do want to watch, space is limited around the squash courts and please note that you must remain silent throughout to ensure all students can concentrate fully. We appreciate your co-operation with this.

Sensei Bob Poynton likes for all students of each grading group to wait till the very end before advising students whether they have passed or not. Every grading examiner works differently so please respect their own process.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO KARATE CLASSES HELD THIS SUNDAY AT 4PM OR 5PM THIS WEEK.

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting the KUGB Grand Champion - winner of both male senior Kata and Kumite 2010, Sensei John Bruce (4th Dan) and Female Kata Champion Sensei Holly Sterling (3rd Dan) on Sunday the 11th of July.

Sensei Matt Price is coming down to teach a Kata and competition Kumite course for us on Sunday 2nd May.Sensei Price has recently retired as one of Britain’s top karate competitors in both Kata and Kumite winning many medals both nationally and internationally in both categories. One of our favourite instructors, sensei Price has a great style and enthusiasm in his teaching that is motivational to all levels.
Please email to place your name on our attendance list. I am particularly keen that all Instructors and Squad Members attend this session. The session is suitable for Red Belt or higher, both Juniors and Adults.

Date: 2nd May 2010

Time: 10.30am – 1.30pm

Venue: Barker Gym, Radley College, White’s Lane, Radley, Abingdon (5 minutes from the WHLTC).
